The Shift Counts People Who Aren't Here Yet

The stall still has twelve jobs that are not code. Each one got a checkbox and enough detail that a later pass cannot pretend it was vague. Nothing on the belt moved. The list did.

One of those jobs is the count. It is not the faces at the counter. Waiting customers, plus everyone still due to arrive that shift. The crowd you cannot see yet still belongs to the day. Leave angry and the rule is still open. The number does not get to pretend the street is empty.
